Dickey's Karate & Martial Arts
teaches Ryukyu Kempo, a wonderful art that encompasses
striking, kicking, pinning and throwing.
The art of Ryukyu
Kempo is a life protection
art that utilizes strikes to the body's pressure points in order to
render the attacker unable to continue their attack. We teach these
original techniques in their original form.
Each strike is accompanied by
the proper body change ensuring the effectiveness of the strike and
providing total protection of the body.
Proper body change allows the
student to learn to have automatic explosive reaction to an
attacker. As you learn and perfect the techniques, they will become
as reactionary as your natural reactive
systems.
Techniques:
Irimi Jitsu: The art of using body change. This
technique is used to protect the body, while allowing the student to
safely enter and evade the attack, striking the opponent if
necessary.
Atemi Jitsu: The art of striking
the limbs. The technique also sets up the opponent's body for a more
severe strike if needed.
Tuite Jitsu: The art of pinning an
opponent. The technique uses nerve stimulation, instead of
mechanical locking, to defend against being grabbed anywhere on the
body.
Kyusho Jitsu: The art of
incapacitating through the body's pressure points. This technique
renders the attacker unable to attack any further.
For an art to be successful for
life protection it must blend all of these techniques together and
be linked in a way to allow them to realized in a moment's notice.
In other words the techniques must flow from one to another without
the least bit of hesitation. This is facilitated by the teaching of
proper body change and irimi (entering) in relation to an
attack.
Ethics:
Our program adheres to the ethical tenets found in the
martial arts systems of old values that are paramount in the mental
health of all people: values of self-worth, honesty, integrity,
self-control, an indomitable spirit, and most of all, the courage to
stand for truth and justice.
Competitions:
We
believe that tournaments and competition rob the martial arts
student of the true benefits of the Martial Arts. The techniques you
learn for competitions will not work in real self-defense. They
simply give the student a false sense of security and are
considered Sports Martial Arts only. True martial arts does
not teach aggression but rather restraint. Techniques are only used
if one self or family member are in danger.
Little Ninjas
Philosophy:
Dickey's Karate & Martial Arts Little Ninjas
program utilizes early childhood teaching practices to guide our
students to develop not only physically but
mentally.We believe
that all children need a good self-concept; a good feeling about
themselves. This is essential for learning and making proper choices
in life. Students will develop these qualities in a safe, positive
environment. We provide them with a plan to follow that matches
their learning level.
Goals are the focus of the martial
arts. At Dickey's Karate & Martial Arts, children receive
tangible rewards for their efforts during each session. And, at the
end of each session students may demonstrate their hard work by
taking a belt level exam, if they are ready and show interest. This
reinforces the importance of goal-setting.
We believe that these skills,
coupled with your efforts as a parent, give your child the tools
needed to prepare them for life's challenges, both academically and
socially.
Class
Information:
Little
Ninjas classes are 30 minutes long. We believe students peak at
their learning curve within this 30-minute period.
In class children learn punches,
kicks and hand techniques. They are taught real martial arts
movements so as they progress and get more responsible they can
apply the techniques in real-life situations.
Although the class is structured
and serious, we also believe in providing a fun learning
environment. We play games to help them learn, and we talk about how
to work together. Our students experience varied learning techniques
to help them grow to respect themselves, each other and the
instructors, and to appreciate the learning environment.
Students also learn to yell for
help in any situation. They learn how listening is better than just
hearing something, and they learn how to actively watch their
teacher. We want to help our students to understand that they are
responsible for their own learning and growth.
